It's begun

The new bathroom is being installed.  Parker's dad arrived Thursday and they've been working diligently since.  To my great relief his dad seems to be pretty organized.  He worked out a list of all the things we needed to pick up before construction could start.  He sat down with us and we worked out a layout we did all of the things I would have liked to have done a month ago but couldn't because I don't know the first thing about creating a bathroom.  I like lists, I like time lines, I like plans.  All of those things that used to drive me insane when I was younger.

We drove separately to get all the stuff.  He and his dad took his pickup and the enclosed trailer and I took my pick up.  We picked out flooring, faucets, and the shower together.  We ended up with a 4 foot shower with no bench, a dark linoleum floor that looks like rough cut stone, and a brushed nickel shower head.  We looked for tub faucets but they had a selection of 4 total.  They had one I like for $250, one neither of us really liked for $799 (yes, seven hundred dollars for a faucet and it's wasn't even made of gold!) and 2 that were so hideous we didn't even bother to look at the price.  So, the tub faucet is on hold for a while which means I won't be sipping champagne in a luxurious new tub any time soon.  After the "fun" part I left the store and let the guys pick up all the boring junk... the pipes and the bendy things and the insulation and all that.  While they were doing that I went home and pulled staples out of the floor and nails out of the wall studs.

That's been the extent of my "helping" at this stage.  Besides keeping them fed.  We've had a lovely menu the past few days.
Thursday - Spaghetti with homemade sauce, Italian sausage, and garlic toast
Friday - Marinated steaks, shimp in garlic butter, and a huge salad
Saturday - I made breakfast and supper this day.  Cinnamon rolls (with extra frosting per Parker's request) scrambled eggs, and bacon which came out perfectly.  I always find bacon to be kind of a crap shoot if I'm going to get that perfect balance of crispy and wiggly.   Supper was pulled pork sandwiches from the crock pot.  I haven't gotten to try them yet but I've been told they were good.
Sunday - will be chili

here are my recipes:

Marinated steak
in a gallon size ziploc bag mix:
roughly equal parts olive oil and red wine vinegar
about 3 garlic cloves - smashed
a few shakes of smoked paprika
a few sprigs of basil, oregano, rosemary, and thyme
On the steaks:
kosher salt
ground black pepper
place the steaks in the bag and allow them to marinate for at least 30 minutes but you can leave them overnight if you'd like
Grill to prefered doneness

Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Pork shoulder roast
1 C ketchup
1/4 C Cider Vinegar
1 small can of condensed french onion soup
3 T brown sugar
1 C Ken Davis BBQ sauce
mix the ketchup, vinegar, soup, brown sugar in the crockpot.  Place the pork roast in the pot and turn it a few times to coat it with the sauce.
Cook on low 5 hours (original recipe said 8-9 hrs) but mine was DONE in 5 on low.
Shred the pork using 2 forks
Put the shreds back in the crock pot
add the Ken Davis let it all warm back up and serve on kaiser rolls or burger buns.

I'll post the chili recipe on Monday.
